EvoLogics S2C Acoustic Modems successfully installed at the MoMAR observatory in the Atlantic Ocean

In October 2010, a collaboration between the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER) and the Institut de physique du globe de Paris (IPGP - The Institute of Earth Physics of Paris) - the MoMARSAT expedition - installed an array of oceanographic instruments at the Lucky Strike hydrothermal field offshore the Azores. The newly established MoMAR observatory will enable continuous monitoring of active volcanic and seismic processes, helping the scientists to better understand the dynamics of mid-ocean ridge hydrothermal systems and study the peculiar local fauna.

Palma Declaration on Biodiversity research in the forthcoming 8th framework programme

Biodiversity loss is probably the greatest challenge human societies face today. The importance of biodiversity research must be recognized in the forthcoming Framework Programme (FP8) and supported with adequate visibility and funding.

Net-Biome was represented by Dr. Colin Hindmarch, member of the advisory board, at the PACE-Net Stakeholder Conference on Strengthening Pacific-European Collaboration in Research, Development, and Innovation, which took place in Brussels, 20th – 23rd March 2012.
